Back in 2016, a friend posed a thought-provoking question that lingered in the depths of my mind, igniting a spark of introspection and contemplation. "If you were to do anything in the world for your job without worrying about money or time, what would you do?"
This question holds boundless potential, which led me down a long list of possibilities and aspirations. It forced me to confront my values and ambitions. Did I hope to travel the globe, to immerse myself in new cultures and experiences? Or did I feel drawn towards a different calling?
After some reflection, I shared with my friend that my dream was to become a writer. Typically categorized as impractical, I had pushed aside this though in my head many times. Despite the push to have a life of stability in conventional career paths, the allure of creativity and self-expression always pulled me back.
For years, I had felt like I needed to pursue stability and ignore creativity. Yet, the thought always came back. It wasn't until 2019 that a slew of events pushed me to start writing for myself, leading to a collection of poems and journal entries.
Amidst years of personal growth and spiritual exploration, I soon saw a common theme within my interactions with others - the concept of 'deconstruction' within the Christian community. As I walked through my own journey of self-discovery, I found solace in poetry, using words to navigate the complexities of deconstruction and reconstruction.
Sharing my poems with those grappling with similar doubts and uncertainties, I felt the impact of storytelling. The poetry I shared and the stories they told in return, connected our hearts and minds in a shared experience of vulnerability. The impact of these exchanges spurred me to organize what I had written and offer it as hope to others. Thus began the process to write my first poetry collection, The Sun Became Shy.
Don't get me wrong, I am a strong believer that just because we CAN share a story, doesn't mean we always should. However, when you are feeling lonely in a journey, it is helpful to hear how other people have gone through a similar path. That is why I decided to publish a book. As I continue to craft my story and share it with the world, I want to invite you on your own journey of self-expression and discovery towards holistic health.
